Assessment Process Information (February 2025)
Our base session rate of 70 minutes is $225.03 (minimum cost of assessment is $787.61). If you are a private paying client we will take a non refundable $100.00 deposit at the time of booking to secure your appointment.
At Kids Steps, we prioritise client-centred goals, meaning they are functional, meaningful and of interest to you. To achieve this, our comprehensive assessment protocol includes:
1. Initial phone appointment with your therapist – (usually 30 minutes)
To better understand you and your family, we’d love to know about the clients’ development, interests, challenges, and how we can best support them. We’ll contact you or your caregiver before the first face to face appointment to gain this information and provide an overview of expectations for your in-person assessment session. (Included in initial cost above)
2. In-person assessment sessions
Typically, you'll meet your therapist in person at our clinic. They may use play-based or paper-based assessments to gather data for personalised support. This may take a number of sessions and will be discussed with you throughout the process. (Included in initial cost above)
3. Analysis of assessment and report writing (usually 1 hour + 10 minutes)
During the week following the assessment, the therapist will analyse the assessment data, compile a detailed report highlighting the areas requiring support and formulate possible goals for therapy sessions. (Included in initial cost above)
4. Feedback and goal setting session – (usually 1 hour + 10 minutes)
This will happen via phone or in the clinic, with you and/or your caregiver. Together, we’ll review the report, discuss support areas, collaborate on meaningful and appropriate goals and update the service agreement, including service delivery options. (Included in initial cost above)
5. Therapy Plan - (usually 1 hour + 10 minutes)
The therapist will complete a plan including a detailed description of goals and therapy processes to outline how we will work towards these goals. (Required for ongoing therapy additional $225.03)
6. AHA Planning – if applicable (usually 1 hour + 10 minutes) (additional $225.03)
Depending on the clients’ needs, you may commence therapy with an Allied Health Assistant (AHA). The speech therapist requires time to create a therapy plan to ensure the AHA can support the client in the best way possible.
Please note:
Some clients may require the face-to-face component of their assessment to be completed over multiple sessions. Additional appointments are billed at $225.03 per session.
